Project1: The Death of RMMV or A Triptych of Emptiness is a three-hour "triptych" non-narrative experimental animated feature about "emptiness", indicates being nothing but the lack of environment and absence of population. The film is divided into three segments with different film formats in reverse chronological order:
3. Recession ==> VHS-style (introduced in 1970s, set in modern and futuristic times)
2. Isolation ==> CinemaScope-style (introduced in 1950s, set in medieval or Victorian times)
1. Dissolution ==> Silent-era (introduced in 1900s, set in medieval or Victorian times)
It was made primarily in RPG Maker MV engine and shot in Bandicam and FonePaw, incorporating limited animation with still screenshot (a digital version of still image film).Slated to release on October 21, 2025, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of RPG Maker MV.

TRIVIA

  • Distortion, a prototypical project for a RPG Maker animated feature, was reissued as a part of Project1, retitled as Isolation.

  • Unlike most triptychs with horizontal shapes, an official film poster of Project1 is vertical in resemblance of a film strip. These two smaller panels (above as Recession and below as Dissolution) and a single, larger panel (middle as Isolation) are shown as "segments" with a variety of screenshots about the film. However, these smaller panels have longer runtime of 70 minutes than a single panel, which only has 45 minutes.

  • The title of the film itself is named after the first project used to produce games most in RPG Maker engines.

  • Frederick C.G. Borromeo is no longer named in the film credits after several projects were previously produced since 2019, which reverted back his old name.

  • While Distortion or Isolation was shot in 2–3 days starting in January 2023, the majority of the film's production was shot in a week or two starting in June 2025.

  • The film was completed in June 18, 2025, with a verified running time of 3 hours and 10 minutes (shown in a screenshot above).
